Stop REPOSTING MY STUFF!

Wed Feb 13, 2008, 4:38 PM
Edit: I know that the following will probably accomplish bugger all considering the nature of the Internet, I just need to rant, here.

All right, you little bastards, this is getting seriously irritating.

In the past few days alone, I have had notes reporting my Doctor Who art showing up on ebay cheapie merchandise, youtube videos and posted on other fansites - all with absolutely no credit.
This is also VERY widespread with my Disney art, too - especially the Goth Snow White.

What part of 'DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH MY ART' don't you understand?
You'll find it says so LOUD and CLEAR on my FAQ that this is NOT allowed.

Just to reiterate:
No, you may NOT use my art in any multimedia, graphics, layouts, tubes or ANY format other than the wallpapers I have posted here.

The Who wallpapers even SPECIFICALLY state not to repost them on other sites, but do people listen or respect an artist's wishes? Obviously not.
Oh, it's on the INTERNET it MUST be FREE for ANYONE to use, rite hee hee?

If this keeps up, I am giving serious consideration to closing down this account. I enjoy making pictures and it's always great hearing that people enjoy them, but as always, if bad apples do not respect my rules in regard to my art then NO ONE gets nice things.

You have been warned, kids. Not your art, not your toys.

Actually, upon reflection, closing this account and deleting all the art wouldn't magically remove all the pics that have already been saved and hosted/posted elsewhere, which makes it a bit of a futile threat. So I'll simply not post ANY new art at all. None. I shall keep it ALL to myself. So there.

Incidentally, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has left a comment or sent me a note when they've found someone mis-using my art. It's all very much appreciated. Unfortunately, sites like Youtube and Photobucket have insanely convoluted rules for removing stuff that violates IP or copyright which most of the time is not worth the hassle. But if you see my art misused contrary to my FAQ, please feel free to hit a report button if there is one.

Edit: To those suggesting I watermark everything, I COULD, but as someone in comments put it, damage is done. Putting watermarks on all my art now would be like closing the gate after the horse has bolted. If someone wanted an unwatermarked picture of mine, they wouldn't be too hard to find. I'm experimenting with DA's built-in watermarker, so we'll see.

I don't have anything that anyone would steal, so I can't say i've experienced this problem. However, it's becoming more annoying, especially as popular and GOOD artists are leaving due to this...

I wishe there was a better way to stop this. Watermarks don't always work and disabling left clicks probably won't happen.

I'm sorry it happened to you and I'm sorry that you are considering not putting new stuff up. I hope everything goes well.

Its really sad actually, you really can't be a talented artist who does any fanart. People steal these things immediately. I'm sorry people are taking your stuff, I watch you and greatly enjoy your work.

I'm sorry about the art thieves. That's very disrespectful. Isn't there any way to disable right-clicking? I know, on fotki (some photo site), many people disable right-clicking. That way, even if it comes up in a Google search, there is no way they can steal the image. All they can do is stare.

I might just inform DA about disabling that.

Disabling right-clicking HELPS, but the truly determined can still just take a screen grab.

Takes a particularly stupid art thief to go to all the trouble of trying to retouch out a watermark, though.

and it'll be sad to see you go. but your intellectual property (even though its mostly fanfart) should be protected.

well, theres a way to making a digital water mark. thats a photoshop feature. you put a "tag" on your image so that whenever someone took your image, your information will always be attatched. I'm not sure how that works, but maybe its something to consider.

Hm, I didn't know about that.

Thanks, I'll look into it :)
