Old School Strawberry by mimi-na Old School Strawberry by mimi-na
Eh.
Just felt like drawing the little gal the other day. I remember I had several of the storybooks as a little girl - ones with those lush, charming watercolour renderings of the fruity little gang. When I look at the revamped Strawb & Friends today with their little jeans and modern flip do's and pseudo-Bratz ensembles, I wonder 'When did it stop being okay to just be a little girl?'. Why do even toys aimed at 5-yr-olds have to be 'cool'? You are NOT supposed to worry about things like that at that age.
You want cool and with-it? Grab a Barbie, that's her job. But leave the classics out of it, kthnxbye.

When I saw the "modern" Strawberry Shortcake, I flipped out in anger and disbelief. And I didn't even like Strawberry Shortcake.
I agree, oldschool is better, I don't know WHAT they were thinking when they "updated" her. :disbelief:

This is a beautiful drawing btw! =D

This is very cute. The classic 1980's Strwberry Shortcake is the one I always liked. I don't like the new updated version.

I love this... and I'm soooo disappointed they started making her wear pants. Strawberry shortcake does NOT wear pants! :P

Which revamp did you mean again?

This drawing was made in 2005. She probably meant the 2003-2007 generation, and I believe she also meant about the dolls, figurines, etc. Not the TV show, because we both know the kids in the TV show have strict dress code. So strict that the only skin they reveal are their hands, neck, and face. Exception for later chars like Lemon Meringue and most off-Strawberryland girls, but still not to the point of "revealing".

Can't say the same for some of the Year 4 episodes, though. If you know what I mean. Pity...

I showed a picture of the new SBSC to a friend of mine and she was horrified, "What?! But she's supposed to be a little ragamuffin!" I'm too young to remember Strawberry Shortcake but every time I see the new versions of her- especially the newest one which looks even more like a Bratz doll- I can't help but think if they needed to update her so much couldn't they have just kept her design and drawn her in a new style? Even Barbie hasn't stayed the same over the years but nothing as radical as this.

I think what you have here would be a step in the right direction.
