This isn't really so much fanart as a complete redesign.
Researching material for a recent pop-themed manga, I bought a bunch of teen magazines for fashion reference. I got to thinking how much pop music has changed in presentation in 20 years. Would Jem and the Holograms have even gotten a second glance from the average pop A&R rep these days? What they sang was pop, no argument there, so they couldn't be a riot grrl band (the Misfits, on the other hand...).
So I had a go at redesigning Jem and the Holograms if they had existed today. No dayglo hair anymore, but lots of slick grooming and taut little midriffs. Aja MIGHT look a bit too indie, but she's Asian, so she can be a little more eclectic than the others.

LOVE this show. so glad its on TV again and DVDs are out w/ every episode FINALLY! /celebrate! Awesome! don't be afraid, this show is awesome and has so much to it. My husband is a big MLP fan, and I'm waiting to see which shirt he's getting from: [link] -Which has an interesting Stormer shirt now too. Yay new Jem stuff! I actually like a couple of Ponies on there that are ok, but most are a little too cute for me... somehow. haha :)

Oooh I think that they should bring Jem back for a while then recreate a new age Jem and the Holograms then make a live-action movie, cuz they kinda did that with Josie and the Pussycats...I like ur picture too that's why I wrote this comment~! I wish I could draw like this~!
